Operating Queensland Government air services

Queensland Government Air (QGAir) officially commenced operations as one aviation entity under the PSBA on 1 July 2014.

QGAir is the result of an extensive examination of the most effective and efficient way to operate Queensland Government aviation assets which saw the Emergency Management Queensland Helicopter Rescue (EMQHR), Police Air Wing and Government Air Wing merged into a new Queensland Government air service on 1 November 2013.

QGAir operates five rotary wing and seven fixed wing aircraft from seven bases located in Brisbane, Townsville, Mt Isa, Cairns and Horn Island, and comprises over 100 personnel including pilots, aircrew officers, rescue crew officers, engineers, ground personnel and administrative staff.

QGAir provides aeromedical, organ retrieval, passenger (including persons in custody) and cargo transport for government and undertakes search and rescue (SAR) as well as disaster response and law enforcement operations.
